Katie Colwell is a New York City–based director and director of photography specializing in bold visual storytelling and underwater work. Originally from a small town in Connecticut, she earned her B.A. in Filmmaking from Oakland University (Rochester, MI), where she also competed as a Division I swimmer.

Her work is immersive and emotionally driven, shaped by a lifelong relationship to water, pushing genre toward something more intimate and experiential. Her latest short, Lapse, marks her professional directorial debut—a proof-of-concept that fuses competitive swimming with her love of horror. Her upcoming film, Being Here, continues this exploration of water-bound storytelling through a tender slice-of-life drama about sisterhood, coming out, and connection aboard a sailboat.

Notable collaborations include Flaunt Magazine, Saks, and The Bowery Hotel, with featured talent such as Nat Wolff, Madison Rose, and Lily McIrney.
